This hysterical collection of short plays, by David Ives, is an experiment in timing. Two people who meet for the first time continuously restart their conversation until they get it “right”. Three monkeys in captivity are set to the task of writing Hamlet. A man finds himself stuck in an alternate reality called “A Philadelphia” where he only receives the opposite of what he asks for. And a quartet breaks into a ballet of tossing bread. Jump in to this perplexingly intelligent world of disorientation and delight!

Deep inside, he knows he was born to achieve something extraordinary. But what? With the help of his girlfriend, Gracie, and a movie rental from Netflix, Jerry has an epiphany: He wants to fly! With a little help from a lawnchair and 400 helium-filled balloons, Jerry defies the odds and takes to the friendly skies. Jerry rises high into the glorious atmosphere, where he discovers Leonardo Da Vinci, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart, who urge him to join the greats of aviation in the sky. In the end, Jerry has a decision to make: come back down to earth, or fly forever where the air is free.

Tarmac
Written by Suzie Celentano
Directed by Jenn Williams

Tarmac is a compelling new play that examines and celebrates the often untold stories of 'heroes who serve at home,' --  military family members.  Directed by Jennifer Williams, this new work was inspired by the experiences of Lorton resident/playwright Suzie Celentano, MFA, whose husband was deployed to Southwest Asia in 2006 - 2007. With grit and at times, humor, she has encorporated her own journals from that year with the inspiring and heartfelt often true stories of other unsung heroes who quietly serve at home. We hope you will join us for this reader's theatre performance in May 2009; with your presence and feedback, you will become part of the collaborative process of molding this new play into a full-scale production.
